Glenlivet, Thirty Six (Wilson & Morgan) (en)

Here is a spectacular bottle. An old Glenlivet. This bottle has finished top, even if it is followed closely by a much younger Cragganmore. Unanimity on this venerable whisky? No, as usual. It has raised passions (the highest score is 93 points), but not for everyone, since the lowest score is 80 points. A difference of 13 points.

Jolie_Grenouille

Color: Light Mahogany Nose: The nose is greedy. Presence of dried fruits, cold tobacco, some rancio. Alcohol is present but fairly blends well in flavorings. Mouth: Dry fruits, spices. It's hot, it's well done. Alcohol is still present but always as well integrated. Final: Long, sweet, hot. The alcohol still there but not at all disturbing. A fairly complex Whisky.

Blackmalt

Perfumed nose with a presence of alcohol a little too present. Sherry it is but it's a sherry. straightforward, tough It will take time for him to express ... Unfortunately, the alcohol takes over everything. It fails to settle down, that's a shame. Palate is pungent, dry and nervous attack. Woody. Astringent and really powerful. Even too much. A taste of cold coffee and something bitter that reminds me of that taste especially after chewing, inadvertently, a pip fruit. This final is very present, spicy and hot. Aftertaste of coffee without sugar very tight well led. This gives a bitterness that will give a significant length. Maybe some peanuts ... Comment Although too powerful. The mask any alcohol. At least I'm sure the 40% required! It's a shame.

Voici une bouteille spectaculaire. Un vieux Glenlivet. Cette bouteille a terminé en tête, même si elle est suivie de très près par un Cragganmore beaucoup plus jeune. Unanimité sur ce vénérable whisky? Non, comme d'habitude. Il a suscité des passions (la cote la plus élevée est de 93 points), mais pas chez tout le monde, puisque la cote le plus basse est de 80 points. Un écart de 13 points.

Jolie_Grenouille

Nez: Un nez gourmand. Présence de fruits secs, de tabac froid, un peu de rancio. L'alcool est assez présent mais se fond bien dans les arômes. Bouche: Fruits secs, épices. C'est chaud, c'est bien fait. L'alcool est toujours aussi présent mais toujours aussi bien intégré. Final: Longue, sucrée, chaude. Toujours cet alcool bien présent mais pas du tout dérangeant. Un whisky assez complexe.

Blackmalt

Couleur ambre Nez parfumé avec une présence d'alcool un peu trop présente :(. Sherry il l'est mais c'est un sherry franc, rude. Il va falloir du temps pour qu'il s'exprime.. Malheureusement, l'alcool prend le dessus sur tout. Il ne parvient pas à s'assagir, c'est bien dommage. Bouche piquante, sèche et nerveuse en attaque. Boisée. Astringente et vraiment puissante. Trop même. Un bon goût de café froid et quelque chose d'amère qui me fait penser a ce goût particulier après avoir croqué, par inadvertance, un pépin de fruit. Finale très présente, épicée et chaude. Un arrière goût de café très serré sans sucre bien amené. Cela lui confère une amertume qui lui donnera une longueur non négligeable. Peut-être quelques arachides... Commentaire Bien trop puissant. L'alcool masque tout. Au moins, je suis sûr qu'il les 40% requis ! C'est dommage.

Bunnahabhain 10 years, Le Puits à Whisky (Jean Boyer) (en)

This  young and affordable Bunnahabhain  has not fallen despite the strong competition in which he dealt. Although it ends in sixth position, but still with a very honorable score: 80.59 points.
Again, the term does not belong to unanimously WDTS dictionary, as this bottle has obtained between 89 and 65 points, a difference of 24 points. It is true that its relatively low alcohol level makes it less spectacular and all its qualities are in the nuance.Some prefer more frankness in a whisky. Others enjoy more the finesse.

Mars

Nose: Nuts, figs, chocolate, tangerine, oily, grapes. Palate: Oily, rough, peach and mandarin. Pleasant. Final: Figs, nuts, chocolate, mandarin, spices, delicate exotic fruit, cinnamon. Average longer. Comments: Very pleasant to drink, nice marriage between the fruits and the aromas of the sherry. Aeration destroyed the balance a little. Water didn't add anything

Blackmalt	Color: gold Discrete and fresh nose. A bit of sweet caramel and cold coffee with a smell of old waxed and dusty furniture. Frankly not all that terrible. It is soft, very dull and expressionless. I feel nothing else. Though, alcohol burning nose. Mouth over this. Bitter. And that's all. At least it is in line with the nose. Short and bitter finish. Maybe a little spice back ... That's it. Comment: 65 just for the continuity of the three sets. Namely, a sad trio. My notes are short but I do not know what else to say. If this alcohol has the 40% required for the name "whisky"?
Dede	Color: White Wine Nose: The first contact is austere, mineral (chalk). Not very engaging. A little fruit shading (pear), vanilla fragrance and especially grappa is becoming more and more dominant. The second tasting confirmed the dominance of grape brandy. Palate: The attack is watery and the middle not very expressive. Without it being burning, there is still the taste of alcohol, and a certain sweetness tempered by hints of wet cardboard. Perhaps a hint of citrus acidity and also still those notes of brandy second tasting confirmed. Final:: Short and not very tasty. Conclusion: I may have missed something somewhere, but this malt seems to have very little to tell. These scents grappa remind me a whisky which is very young, immature, yet there is nothing repulsive here, that seems to confirm the second tasting.

Bunnahabhain 10 ans, Le Puits à Whisky (Jean Boyer) (fr)

Ce Bunnahabhain jeune et vendu à un prix démocratique n'a pas démérité malgré la sérieuse concurrence à laquelle il a eu affaire. Certes il finit en sixième position, masi cependant avec un score très honorable de 80,59 points. 

Encore une fois, le mot unanimité n'appartient pas au dictionnaire des WDTS, puisque cette bouteille a obtenu entre 89 et 65 points, soit un écart de 24 points. Il est vrai que son taux d'alcool relativement bas le end moins spectaculaire et toutes ses qualités sont dans la nuance. Certains préfèrent plus de franchise dans un whisky. D'autres apprécient davantage la finesse.

Mars

Nez : Noix, figue, chocolat, mandarine, huileux, raisins secs. Bouche : Huileux, rêche, pêche et mandarine. Agréable. Finale : Figue, noix, chocolat, mandarine, épices, fruits exotiques délicats, canelle. Moyenne. Commentaires : Très agréable a boire, joli mariage entre le fruit et les arômes du sherry. L'aération détruit un peu ce fondu. L'eau ne rajoute rien.

Blackmalt	Couleur or Nez discret et frais. Un peu de caramel doux et de café froid avec une odeur de vieux meuble ciré et poussiéreux. Franchement pas terrible tout ça. C'est mou, sans expression et très terne. Je ne ressens rien d'autre. Si, de l'alcool brûlant le nez. Bouche plus présente. Amère. Et c'est tout. Au moins elle est en phase avec le nez. Finale amère et courte. Peut être un peu d'épices en retour... Voilà. Commentaire : 65 juste pour la continuité des trois ensembles. À savoir, un bien triste trio. Mes notes sont courtes mais je ne sais pas quoi dire de plus. Si, cet alcool a bien les 40% requis pour l'appellation "whisky"?
Dede	Couleur : Vin blanc Nez : Le premier contact est austère, minéral (craie). Pas très engageant. Un peu de fruit en trame de fond (poire), de la vanille et surtout un parfum de grappa se faisant de plus en plus dominant. La seconde dégustation confirme la domination de l'eau de vie de raisin. Bouche : L'attaque est aqueuse, le milieu peu expressif. Sans qu'il soit brûlant, on retrouve tout de même le goût de l'alcool, ainsi qu'une certaine suavité gâchée par des notes de carton mouillé. Peut-être un soupçon d'acidité agrumique aussi et toujours ces notes d'eau de vie confirmées en seconde dégustation. Finale : Brève et peu goûteuse. Conclusion : Je suis peut-être passé à côté, mais ce malt semble n'avoir que très peu de choses à raconter. Ces parfums de grappa me font penser à un whisky très jeune, encore immature, encore qu'il n'y ait rien de repoussant ici, ce que semble confirmer la seconde dégustation.

Cragganmore 1999, Malts of Scotland (fr)

Cette bouteille a fini en seconde position,  très près du vainqueur puisque seuls 0,09 points les séparent. Ce Cragganmore représente un excellent rapport qualité-prix. Elle a également remporté le prix "coup de coeur", ce qui confirme son excellent rapport qualité-prix. La cote maximale attribuée (par deux dégustateurs est de 92 points) alors que la cote la plus basse est de 78. Une fois de plus, pas d'unanimité.

Mars	Nez : Fruité exubérant (citron vert, physalis, kiwi, fruits de la passion, ananas, mangue, noix de coco,...), cire, épices, pain, papier, carton, pamplemousse. Une vrai corbeille de fruits exotiques. Bouche : Ultra fruitée, très citronnée avec un peu de kiwi et d'épices. Puissante. Finale : Amère, fruits exotiques, citronnée, déséquilibrée et assez particulière(dans le bon sens du terme). Commentaires : Mieux vaut éviter l'adjonction d'eau car cela le déséquilibre encore plus et l'on perd en fruité exotique. L'aération lui fait perdre aussi un peu au niveau des arômes. J'ai hâte de savoir ce que c'est parce que j'ai littéralement adoré ce whisky. Aussi bon sur mon échelle qu'un Benriach 1976! Même si c'est différent.
PatGVA	Robe tuilée Nez : poivre, épices orientales, foin, feuille humide, superbe crème aigre, pomme blette, vieux beurre, vanille, patisserie, sucre candy, c'est très beau Bouche : poivre, bois frais, moka, chocolat noir, douce touche de praline, Finale : puissante équilibré, sur le chocolat noir, magnifique long développement

Alexandre

Le nez montre une belle palette de fruits jaunes (pêche, poire) dans une relative sècheresse (bois sec, cire). La puissance et la complexité sont moyennes, cela n’aide pas à l’expressivité. Avec l’aération, de la lavande apparaît, tandis que le fruité se fait un peu plus doux. L’attaque en bouche est fruitée, dans la continuité du nez. Il y a aussi de la ferme, et quelque chose de plus végétal (tourbe ?). Puis, une sensation désagréable de puissance alcoolisée mal maîtrisée apparaît. C’est très fort, sur le piment et le soufre, et cela empêche tout développement correct des arômes. La finale, longue, reste sur cette sensation de puissance, avec du piment, de la minéralité et un peu de café. L’aération fait apparaître de la braise et de la fumée. En conclusion, un whisky à la puissance mal maîtrisée, surtout en bouche.

Cragganmore 1999, Malts of Scotland (en)

This bottle finished in second position (in fact very close to the winner, the 36 years old Glenlivet: 0,09 points . This is really a great quality for money. It also won the "coup de coeur" price, meaning it is really good stuff for the money. The highest points received is 92 (accorded by 2 tasters)  and the lowest 78. Again no unanimity.

Mars	Nose: Fruity exuberant (lime, physalis, kiwi, passion fruit, pineapple, mango, coconut, ...), wax, spices, bread, paper, cardboard, grapefruit. A true exotic fruit basket. Taste: Ultra fruity, very lemony with a bit of kiwi and spice. Powerful. Final: bitter, exotic fruits, lemon, unbalanced and rather peculiar (in a good way). Comments: It is better to avoid adding water as this imbalance even more and you lose exotic fruit. Aeration also makes it lose a little in flavor. I'm anxious to know what it is because I literally loved this whisky. As good on my scale as a BenRiach 1976! But also different!
PatGVA	Colour: tile Nose: pepper, oriental spices, hay, wet sheet, wet wool, super sour cream, apple chard, old butter, vanilla, pastry, sugar candy, it is very beautiful Mouth: pepper, fresh wood, mocha, dark chocolate, sweet touch of praline, Final: powerful balanced on dark chocolate, beautiful long development

Alexandre

The nose shows a beautiful palette of yellow fruit (peach, pear) in relative dryness (dry wood, wax). The power and complexity are moderate, it does not help the expressiveness. With aeration, lavender appears, while the fruit is a little softer. The palate is fruity, in the continuity of the nose. There is also the farm, and something more plant-ish (peat?). Then appears an unpleasant sensation of uncontrolled alcoholic power. It is very strong, the chili and sulfur, and this prevents proper development of aromas. The final, long, remains on the feeling of power, with spice, minerality and a little coffee. Aeration reveals the embers and smoke. Finally, a whisky with uncontrolled power, especially in the mouth.

Bunnahabhain 20 years old, Master of Malt (en)

This Bunnahabhain finished in third position, but with an insignificant difference compared with the second: 0.16 points. Once again Master of Malt sent us a beautiful bottle. Too bad it was already sold out with the publication of results. The best rating assigned to this whisky is 91 points (assigned by 3 different tasters) while the lowest score is 74. Once again in the WDTS, no bottles unanimous. The difference between extreme scores is 17 points.

Dede	Color: Amber Nose: Starts a dry sherry evoking a Fino or Amontillado, with notes of organic black mushrooms, burnt rubber and black powder growing on to more gourmet caramel frame, fresh walnuts and dried apricots. Very nice nose though slightly marked by alcohol before aeration. Palate: The attack is fresh and powerful, with aromas and frankly organic sulfur but without being disagreeable. Black mushrooms, rubber, cocoa bitter, but also tangy mandarin here share the limelight, before the bitterness of the walnuts takes over and then do a subtle exotic touch takes you to the final. Final: Rather long, it leaves the palate the memory of sulfur mixed with the exotic papaya and overripe bitter cocoa. Conclusion: An excellent sherry cask to its eye more on the side of aromas and organic sulfur than to gluttony. Will not please everyone, but quite to my taste.
jmputz	Color: Brown Nose is perfectly balanced. All in smoothness, thi indisputable sherry-like nose is pleasantly complex. Smells of milk chocolate, sherry, mocha with a nice impression of freshness in the background. The sherry is clearly dominant in the mouth also. here also a nice balance and freshness of the nose makes room to very discrete notes of tannins. The mouth is also quite complex, warm and leaves an excellent impression. Here too, a few notes of chocolate. The finish is exceptionally long. Feel the warmth of sherry, these pleasant notes of chocolate and mocha persist for many minutes.
Jolie_Grenouille	Color: Light Mahogany Nose: Creme brulée, caramel, dried fruits with smoky notes... It is a sherry casked. Alcohol is very discreet, well-integrated. No loss to ventilation. Palate: A good sherry very fruity, slightly woody, very nice. We find these quite nice smoky notes. Alcohol is also discreet. Finish: Long, fruity, gourmand. Alcohol is a little present which further strengthens the finish... Really nice. A nice whisky to taste (eg after a meal with a chocolate dessert).

Corbuso

Colour: Amber Nose: Yeasty, slightly meaty, sulphury and vegetal. A sherry monster with strong yeasty-sulphury influence. Taste: Rich, juicy, very fruity, on orange, tangerine, brambleberries, treacle, dates, some sulphur and vegetamine. The finish is long, sticky, syrupy, on sulphur, vegetamine, corn syrup, tangerine, brambleberries and orange maramalde. Impression: A sherry monster, with too much suplhury-vegetamine flavours to my liking. For the sherry freaks.
