Le principe des WDTS est très simple.Des producteurs (distilleries, embouteilleurs indépendants, importateurs) envoient une ou plusieurs bouteilles de leur choix.
Ces bouteilles sont envoyées à une entreprise spécialisée dans le remplissage et l'envoi d'échantillons (rarewhiskysite.nl).
Une fois un nombre suffisant de bouteilles reçues, les échantillons sont envoyés aux participants qui se sont préalablement inscrits. Les frais de manutention et d'envoi sont à charge des participants.
Au bout d'un délai de quelques semaines (en général un mois), les notes de dégustations accompagnées d'une cote sur 100 sont centralisées et publiées sur whisky-distilleries.info.
